The upcoming addition of the 3 former Soviet states of Poland, Hungary and The Czech Republic are slated for April 1999.
Anyone can see the good side of NATO expansion,increased manpower,new military facilities/bases,aircraft installations,expanded borders..etc. The Czechs' are known for making good weapons, Poland is the wealthiest former Soviet Satellite,Hungary stands to profit from the offered security and possible commerce created.
Still I get the jitters when I think of the possible results. I believe the Russians fear this expansion, fear that the world they once ruled is now almost out of reach. Add to this the slo disintegration of older Nuclear Missles, which are running out of time for effective use, and the continuing confusion of Russian politics! Anything from communists nationalists,nazis,socialists,anarchists?
I'll be watching the Russian reaction to the upcoming integration and will report from time to time my thoughts.
