A Rant!

People don't want to be rational, they fear the loss of magic, as if all science would do is strip them of all they hold dear, to the extent that science is some evil messenger that can't know as much as they, because they know that ESP and ghosts and apportation and teleportation exists, along with all the reassuring voices that tell them what they want to hear. Science is a dead-end path, it can't exceed the speed of light, or suspend its rules on behalf of the true believer's whim, like their personal Jesus can. Culture poetry and myth and apotheosis is an astonishing accomplishment in and if itself. Why belittle humans in taking away their accomplishmenst, attributing them to the gods instead?

What I've found from discussing (at length) life issues with religious people is "the crutch". For questions that there are no simple answers for there is "God". When things go bad, and there is no easy way out, there is "God". When I can't solve a problem, I give it to "God". When I do something that I know is wrong, I will apologize to "God".

When I interject with common sense and scientific approach, the open minded individuals discuss the item intelligently, while the rest look away as if they pretend not to hear. As if they are saying to themselves "who does he think he is saying there is any other explanation other than "God".

There is an answer, and logical explanation for everything. If you don't put in the effort to educate yourself to the level where you can comprehend, and wish to grasp a quick fix in "God", then so be it. But it really hits a nerve when some use "God" as an excuse for everything, including committing crimes. Most people who claim to subscribe to one religion or another have not even read the bible, or Quran, or whatever except a passage here, and there. In most religions there are RULES, not philosophy that can be followed at the users dispersion. For those who claim to be Jewish for one example, there is no Jesus, period. So the rules of the old testament must be followed. There's not just the ten commandments. There's hundreds of other rules that are simply not realistic anymore. The Jewish people I discussed this with don't even know about examples I bring up, like you can't wear clothing made of two different materials, or you can't cut your hair on the sides. And when I mention the world being 6,000 years old, they laugh. Billions, and billions (pun intended) is now widely accepted.

I strongly believe that the bible was written by people, for people, and it seems to be an unsaid understanding among most religious people as well. If they accept that there are logical explanations for things mystically explained in the bible, then perhaps there can one day be a universal fusion of science, and religion.

I still never got a reasonable explanation as to where dinosaurs are in the bible, since many believe "God" wrote the bible, how could he not know? And since the bible explains creation why leave out such a thing, since they dominated the planet for 180 million years before we as Homo Sapien appeared 100-200 thousand years ago.

Sorry for my rambling.
